The Dummer Yard Repurposing Project will leave the property in a better condition than it is in today, creating opportunities for future economic development activities on the site. Additionally, the project will:
- Generate $1 million annually ($10 million projected total) for the city of Berlin in tipping fees and will contribute significantly to the city’s municipal tax base
- Create good-paying jobs while fostering economic development in the North Country
- Implement a properly monitored and maintained groundwater management system
- Mitigate stormwater runoff on the property
- Provide funding for the treatment of existing landfill leachate
- Provide a surety bond to guarantee funding for post-closure environmental monitoring and maintenance
AT NO COST TO BERLIN, The Dummer Yard Repurposing Project will:

Repair the cap system; properly manage leachate; re-establish the groundwater monitoring system

Create a safe, regulated, double-lined soil disposal facility that will NOT accept municipal solid waste

Not create odors like municipal solid waste landfills, and only operate 5-10 years

Pay all back taxes (more than $100k), and generate new, ongoing tax dollars

Create approximately $10 million in new city revenue from tipping fees

Create good-paying jobs, economic development, and prepare the site for future use
